This is an interesting way to work, but of course you can put a compressor, noise gate, EQ, etc., before the Amp Designer, and delays, etc, after it on the same track.

I did this a few weeks ago to an old soundgear GSR100 I had laying around. I used white wood filler as to not only mimic the frets, but also to fill the little gaps between the fret markers/inlays, that way I can easily see where my notes are. I also applied 4 layers of crazy glue with a whole sanding process between each layer, to form an acrylic layer that strengthens the fretboard. Absolutely blew my mind how it turned what I considered a garbage instrument into one of my favorites to play!

Do these work on avtive basses? I have a 2001 made in Mexico deluxe 5-string jazz bass.

I'm very surprised when you play on the bridge, that those pickups being alnico 2, sound like the alnico 5 that Jaco Pastorius' bass had. Great playing!!

If you want to eliminate 60 cycle hum, use active pickups, as long as you install a lithium battery and don’t leave it plugged in all the time, you shouldn’t have to change it for a very long time

I just installed these and am hearing the noise as well, even with both pikups on full. So I will be shielding my pickup cavities as well. Interestingly, the Seymour Duncan pickups that these replaced had copper shielding inside the pickup covers.

Those drums do sound good. My set is a ‘rock’ set, with deep toms. To tune these for jazz I remove the batter head entirely, and tune the clear Diplomat reso head to be in sync with the shell. Then I put the coated Ambassador batter on, and tune it so that it gets the most ‘open’ and resonant sound possible. The toms are 16 14 13 12 10, and coincidentally this process yields a major chord on these drums: G C E G C. My rock tuning uses the same process, but gets different results because then I’m using clear Emperor or Pinstripe heads.

Could you explain how this principle is different from granular synthesis, which also repeats a tiny slice of a sample until it creates pitch?

Hey, thanks alot for the video! I usually do sequencers, modulation and stuff like that, but wanted to mess a bit with dsp fx. I actually think the reverb sounds quite nice, pretty smooth reflections. Not harsh or springy. Pretty cool, thx.
